Lions in the Street – So Far Away

We’re getting a late start on our posting week, as the Ack has travelled back here to the motherland for a short visit and I’m once again battling my usual combo of busyness & laziness. But we can’t leave the tens of people who read the hill religiously hanging, so we’ve got a quick video post that features two fairly lost arts: honest-to-goodness rock & roll songs and the performance video. Both of those things are on display in the new video for So Far Away from Vancouver outfit Lions in the Street. On the honest-to-goodness rock front, I can’t say things any better than the Ack did in his post on their recently (US) released EP, On The Lam:

More than almost any band out there, Lions in the Street write songs that speak for themselves. They aren’t a passing fad or a bunch of dudes trying to swim in the wake of great rock bands like The Sheepdogs. Their denim has been tight for years and their appreciation and dedication to the art form is evident.

Amen. Talented, hard-working band playing great songs that will shake the pictures off your walls once you crank them up. Nothing wrong with that. As for the video, it’s so simple that it’s completely refreshing. Once upon a time the performance video was king for rock bands, but in this age of DIY videos it’s rare to see a decent video of a band performing that doesn’t try to shoehorn in some tomfoolery or have the production values of a telethon performance. Far from groundbreaking, this neon & strobe-lit effort for So Far Away fits the no-nonsense sound of the band perfectly.
